The prayer life of Jesus was influencing and challenging. Can our prayer life, evangelism lifestyle, holy lifestyle, bible study life, etc. challenge our followers?
Read Luke 11:2-4 again. Is this meant to be recited or was Jesus simply giving a pattern and example of what the content of our prayer should be like? Looking at Luke’s and Matthew’s accounts, let’s pick few things:
– After this manner (Matthew’s account) just a model and not a word system to be repeated as a prayer. Prayer should be directed to Our Father in Heaven.
– Hallowed be your Name – Reverence and honour to God
– Your Kingdom come – Kingdom reign of Jesus to come as people submit to the will of the Father (Luke 17:20-21).
– Give us each day – Recognition that God is our Source and Provider (Philippians 4:19).
– … we also forgive everyone – Necessary condition to receive God’s forgiveness (Mark 11:25-26).
– Do not lead us into temptation – Only God can keep us from being tempted beyond that which we can bear (1 Corinthians 10:13).
As the prayer life of Jesus challenged the disciples; may the prayer life of our leaders be a challenge, a walk and not just talk to a prayerless generation.
And So
Lord, teach us to pray and not to faint.
